New Jersey Minimum Wage Set to Increase

New Jersey Minimum Wage Will Increase to $15.00 per hour for most employees by 2024

On February 4, 2019, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into law a bill passed by the New Jersey Legislature that will raise the New Jersey minimum wage to $15.00 per hour for most employees by 2024.

Workers in most industries will see the minimum wage rise to $10.00 per hour this July, and then will see a minimum wage increase of $1.00 per hour every January 1 until $15.00 per hour is reached in 2024. After that, the minimum wage will be tied to the Consumer Price Index for urban wage earners and clerical workers (CPI-W) and will adjust every January 1 thereafter.

Workers in small businesses (those with five employees or less), seasonal workers, and farm workers will instead only see an increase beginning January 1, 2020, when the minimum wage in their industries is raised to $10.30 per hour. For workers in small businesses and seasonal workers, the minimum wage will reach $15.00 per hour by 2026. For farm workers, they will see a minimum wage increase from $10.30 per hour to $10.90 per hour by 2022, then an increase to $12.50 per hour by 2024, but a special committee will then convene to review whether to raise their minimum wage to $15.00 per hour.

The New Jersey minimum wage is currently set at $8.85 per hour.
